Chapel

The sequence of rooms in the eastern wing ended with a neo-Gothic chapel, designed by the princely building advisor Leonhard Dorst von Schatzberg.

It was furnished and consecrated in the year one thousand eight hundred forty-nine. Part of its equipment was commissioned by Dorota herself, and the rest were donations. Among others, sculptures of Saint Charles Borromeo and Saint Elizabeth were donated to the chapel by Pope Pius the Ninth. The Archbishop of Paris, Hiacent de Quelen, on the other hand, donated a relic of Saint Dorota in a beautiful setting. Local craftsmen made neo-Gothic wainscoting, the court painter and secretary of the princess, Anton Zimmermann, painted an image of Saint Dorota, and the stained glass windows were made in the workshop of Carl Scheinert in Meissen.
