Family Room, German Library, formerly Throne Room

A room in the northwest corner, being the only interior of the palace from which two enfilades are visible. The room was dedicated to the last Duke of Courland and Semigallia - Peter Biron, who in seventeen hundred and eighty-six began the dynasty's reign in the Duchy of Żagań. The three portraits placed in this room are:

• Peter Biron – Duke of Courland;
• Duchess Anna Dorota von Medem – his third wife;
• Alexander Benedict Batowski – Polish diplomat.

Their presence here is not accidental.
Of Dorota, Duchess Dino, it was often said "Miss Batowski". There is a suspicion that she was the child of the Polish diplomat, with whom the wife of Peter Biron, younger by thirty-seven years, had a long affair.

Duchess Anna Dorota von Medem was a guest, among others, at the royal Polish court of Stanisław August, where, as well as in the "entire Warsaw society", her beauty and character made a great impression. An interesting fact is that during her visit in seventeen ninety, two portraits of the duchess were created with a bas-relief medallion containing a profile view of the king's head by Marcello Bacciarelli. One of them is in the Royal Baths in Warsaw, the other is part of the Raczyński Foundation collection at the National Museum in Poznań.
