Garden Inspector's House
Garden Inspector's House.
The building visible from this location is situated to the northeast of the palace, slightly elevated directly ahead. It was erected in the year one thousand eight hundred forty-nine as the residence of the princely garden inspector responsible for gardens, designed by the princely architectural advisor Leonard Dorst von Schatzberg in the Swiss style. During the reign of Duchess Dorota Talleyrand-Périgord (year one thousand eight hundred forty-four to one thousand eight hundred sixty-two), the court gardener was Friedrich Teichert, who worked here since the year one thousand eight hundred twenty-nine, and in the year one thousand eight hundred fifty-two he was promoted to the rank of garden inspector, under whom Božena Němcová's son, Karel Němcov, apprenticed. Around the year one thousand eight hundred fifty-nine, he was succeeded by Hermann Gireoud. After his death in the year one thousand eight hundred ninety-six, his successor was Arnold Degenhardt. In the second half of the twentieth century, all stucco elements, pergolas, garlands were removed, and the building was separated from the park area. To this day, the original coat of arms of Duchess Dorota is preserved above the building's entrance.
